Major works got underway on the Lorraine runway on 29 February 2016. More specifically, for the sake of traffic safety and by decision of the Lorraine Regional Council, runway 6 is undergoing refurbishment 6 cm deep, as it proved necessary after 10 years (the last works date from 2006).

After 10 days of scraping the runway, the site is now in the reprofiling phase, and the marking and lighting works will commence soon.

During this period, passengers at the Lorraine Airport terminal will board shuttles placed at their disposal free of charge to take them to Luxembourg, for flights on HOP! to Lyon and Nice, Air Algérie to Algiers, Jetairfly to Casablanca, Marrakech and Lanzarote. The staff of Lorraine Airport has been mobilised and is at the entire disposal of the passengers, from the departure of the shuttle service to check-in for certain flights at Luxembourg Airport, to provide advice and guidance, reassurance and directions. The Luxembourg airport staff has also been mobilised to extend optimal welcome to passengers and facilitate their boarding and disembarking.

Cooperation between Luxembourg Airport and Lorraine Airport makes it possible to attend to customers through the entire transfer procedure and their passage through the airport, so that their trips go through under optimal conditions.

Johan Vanneste, General Manager of Luxembourg Airport, had this to say: “I would like to thank the operating teams of the two airports for the flawless organisation in transferring all these flights from Lorraine Airport to Luxembourg without any hitches. I also wish to thank Luxair Services which deployed the staff and the stopover services to host a sizeable number of flights during a period of only six weeks. The Luxembourg authorities (DAC, Police, Customs) also provided precious help to enable us to host these additional flights.
