Forty-one flights have been cancelled at Brussels Airport this morning (Thursday) as a result of the Belgocontrol air traffic controllers’ strike of Tuesday and Wednesday. “These are 29 inbound flights and 12 outbound flights” said Anke Fransen, spokeswoman for Brussels Airport. “And they are mainly Brussels Airlines’ flights.”

The airline had already cancelled several flights on Wednesday, as a precautionary measure. “We hope to have a stable situation now and we are regularly in contact with Belgocontrol“, adds the spokeswoman.

On Wednesday, some 100 flights had to be  cancelled at Brussels Airport. A wildcat strike was launched on Tuesday after an agreement had been reached between Belgocontrol management and the trade unions about the issue of early retirement, an agreement that was not accepted by air traffic controllers affiliated to the Belgian Guild of Air Traffic Controllers. The strike affected mainly flights out of Brussels and Charleroi airports.
