Two important departure routes will no longer be able to be flown from Brussels Airport, the Court of First Instance in Brussels has ruled today. The Federal Government now has four months to change the departure routes to avoid a €100,000 per week penalty.

The “Canal Route” (kanaalroute/route du canal) that passes over the centre of Brussels will be disallowed between 23:00 and 07:00. Since 2014 this route was used by pilots to avoid more densely populated areas.

The judge also ruled that there should come an end to the Brussels Region noise regulation breaches along the “Ring Route” as well as on the arrival route for runway 01 between 23:00 and 07:00

The Federal Government has also been convicted of conducting a study on the airport noise disturbance.
