rwyworks15Brussels Airport will commence in 2015 a general maintenance and renovation programme in order to maintain the safe and efficient operation of its runways. The previous renovation works on this scale date from 1985. The first phase of the operations will be carried out in May on runway 25L/07R. Similar operations will be carried out in the coming years on the two other runways.

The following works will be carried out:

  • The top asphalt layers (12cm) of the runways will be renewed
  • The hard shoulders, including the foundation, will be broken up and reconstructed
  • The runway drainage system, including the foundation, will be broken up and reconstructed
  • The runway culvert will be renovated
  • The electrical installation of the runway markings will be replaced and energy-saving LED markings installed

This renovation will be carried out in various phases. Brussels Airport is planning the operations in such a way as to restrict the impact on capacity and preferential runway use.

Further information on these major works will follow later. Brussels Airport will keep local residents informed on the various phases of the operations as well as the consequences for runway use as soon as this is known, and will communicate the information via the press, its website, social media and its magazine for local residents.
