Great news for Belgian airports: after Brussels Airport announced its record month with 2.5 million passengers in July, Brussels South Charleroi released its monthly figures: in July the airport handled nearly 800,000 passengers and that is -after record month July 2016 with 721,620 passengers- a monthly record!

July 2017 ends on a positive note at Brussels South Charleroi Airport. During the seventh month of the year, the number of passengers who crossed the tarmac at Charleroi shot up by 11%, with 799,827 passengers recorded. In 2016, the airport welcomed 721,620 passengers in July. This breaks a historic record in terms of monthly passenger traffic. The occupancy rate at Charleroi has also risen by 1%, compared to the results for the same period in 2016, at around 91% for the month.

With almost 800,000 passengers in July 2017, Brussels South Charleroi Airport broke its monthly record. This increase in passenger numbers can be explained by excellent occupancy rates at Charleroi, combined with a number of new developments. Air Corsica and Belavia, two new airlines at BSCA, launched their operations in March and April 2017 respectively, with new lines to Ajaccio, Bastia (Corsica – Air Corsica) and Minsk (Belarus – Belavia). TUI fly has also consolidated its presence at Charleroi with the addition of a fifth Boeing 737-800, which seats 189 people, thanks to which the airline has been able to increase the frequency of some routes from/to Brussels South Charleroi Airport and open seven new lines (Essaouira, Ouarzazate, Tunis, Sarajevo, Naples, Trieste and Hurghada).

For the first month of the summer holidays, the south of Europe and the Mediterranean region have enjoyed a great deal of success. Spain came first in the list of countries attracting the most travellers, followed by Italy, France and Morocco. Central Europe and city breaks also did well, with Poland coming fifth.

Jean-Jacques CLOQUET, CEO of Brussels South Charleroi Airport, explains:

“We are delighted to see that we can count on the confidence of our passengers. Seeing the statistics rise and knowing that we dealt with almost 800,000 passengers in July is an acknowledgement of all the hard work done by everyone at Brussels South Charleroi Airport. Every day, some 30,000 passengers travel through our airport, and every day, our employees and partners are committed to doing an amazing job to make everybody’s experience with us a pleasant one.”
