Charleroi Airport will be closed this Wednesday, April 20 from 7.15 am to 11:15, not because of a strike, but by lack of air traffic controllers, reports the director of the airport.
“The first flights are leaving at 06:30 Wednesday. The planes taking off from 6:30 am to 7:15 should not be affected by this closure. But disturbances are expected for departures scheduled from 7:15” explained Vincent Grassa, spokesman of Charleroi airport to Belgian TV channel RTBF.
On the other side, on this Tuesday evening “the airport is contacting airlines to find solutions that will impact the lowest number of travellers.” According to the spokesman, it is not impossible that some flights will be delayed and others cancelled. Lack of staff at Belgocontrol will indeed result in the cancellation of flights, both for landing and take-off, from 07:15 to 11:30.
The airport advises passengers that must take a plane Wednesday from Charleroi to inquire with their airline via their website on whether their flight is maintained or changes schedule.
