Iberia was honoured as last year’s most punctual short-haul airline at Brussels airport in the 8th Annual Aviation Awards given out by the Belgian capital airport.
Of last year’s 2,679 flights operated by Iberia between Brussels and Madrid (a 6.7% increase from the previous year), 95% were on time.
This performance was in line with Iberia’s dramatic improvement in punctuality overall during the last 20 months, when it was the world’s most punctual international airline in June, August, October, and December, according to Flightstats.
Iberia began flying to Brussels in April, 1964 and now links the Spanish and Belgian capital cities with 54 flights each week. At its T4 hub in Madrid, passengers from Belgium can continue their trip to other 27 destinations in Spain, to Lisbon or Oporto in Portugal, to 10 African destinations, and to 19 cities in the Americas included in the airline’s network.
In 2014 Iberia raised its capacity on the Brussels-Madrid route by 4.1% to 482,000 seats, while actual passenger traffic on the route grew by 9.6%. Nearly 37% of the customers on the route were connecting passengers to/from other destinations such as Lima, San Jose de Costa Rica, São Paulo, and Buenos Aires in Latin America, and such Spanish cities as Oviedo, Seville, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife.
