In June 2017, almost 3.2 million passengers flew from Schönefeld and Tegel airports. That’s 7.2 % more than in the same period in the previous year (2016). Schönefeld Airport saw the number increase by 17.7 % to 1.145 million passengers in comparison to the same month of the previous year. With regard to passenger growth at both Berlin airports, the combined first-half result of both Berlin airports shows a plus of 7 %.
The latest traffic report contains the figures for passengers, flights and air cargo for June 2017, as well as a comparison with the same period in the previous year.
Traffic Figures January to June 2017
- Passengers: From January to June 2017, some 16,280,697 passengers passed through Berlin’s Schönefeld and Tegel airports. That’s an increase of 6.8 % compared with the same period last year. A total of 6,177,799 passengers took off and landed from Schönefeld (an increase of +17 % on the same time period from the previous year), whilst 10,102,898 passengers (a +1.4 % increase) flew from Tegel.
- Flights: The number of flights at Berlin’s Schönefeld and Tegel airports rose to 138,920 take-offs and landings between January and June 2017, an increase of 6.9% compared with the same period in the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flights grew to 50.222 – an increase of 9.7 %. At Tegel, the number of take-offs and landings grew to 88,698 – an increase of 2.5 % in comparison to the previous year.
- Air cargo: A total of 25,806 tonnes of air cargo was recorded between January and June. That’s an increase of 21.4 % compared with the same period of the previous year. The volume of air cargo at Schönefeld reached 4,553 tonnes – 8.8 % more than last year. Tegel recorded 21.253 tonnes (+24.5 %).

- Passengers: In June 2017, some 3,164,654 passengers passed through Berlin’s Schönefeld and Tegel airports. That’s an increase of 7.2 % compared with June 2016. A total of 1,145,430 passengers (17.7 %) flew from Schönefeld, whilst 2,019,224 passengers (2.0 %) flew from Tegel.
- Flights: The number of flights at Berlin’s Schönefeld and Tegel airports rose to 25,753 take-offs and landings in June 2017, an increase of 2.7 % compared with the same period in the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flights grew to 9,251 (+9.3 %). At Tegel, the number of flights declined, down to 16,502 (-0.7%).
- Air cargo: 4,727 tonnes of air cargo was recorded in June 2017 at Schönefeld and Tegel airport. That’s an increase of 21.7 % compared with June 2016. The volume of air cargo at Schönefeld reached 795 tonnes. That’s 14.7 % more than in June 2016. Tegel recorded 3,933 tonnes (+33.3 %) of air cargo.
