Part of the Antwerp Airport was evacuated this afternoon after a baggage scanner had emitted an alert for possible explosives. A man who was about to take a flight to Nador in Morocco was held for interrogation.

According to the Belgian television VRT, an explosive-sniffing dog sent several times an alarm when the hand baggage of the man was examined. The man was held for questioning. Meanwhile Bomb Squad DOVO/SEDEE had been called.

The building where the baggage hall is located has been evacuated, but the airport may still benefit from the business terminal to allow arriving or departing flights. The flights are currently also continuing normally. The Bomb Squad which arrived in the meantime quickly allowed to reopen the building.

Also, some of the surrounding streets have been temporarily evacuated. Airline TUI Fly operates weekly flights to Nador ; this flight TB2223 operated with by an Embraer 190 registered OO-JEB took off with a delay of 2 hours and 45 minutes. All the pieces of luggage had to be identified on the tarmac. The passenger that was held by the police was on board.
