These figures have strengthened the company’s desire to continue its development in the Bordeaux region with the launch of a new international line to Malta, operating from April 2017 with one to two flights per week.

The company will also launch seasonal lines to Gran Canaria on 17 December with one flight every Sunday, and to Fuerteventura on 18 December.

VOLOTEA CELEBRATES ITS MILLIONTH PASSENGER THROUGH BORDEAUX AIRPORT

The airline also celebrated its 1 millionth passenger to fly since the company began operating at Bordeaux Airport. The lucky passenger was Jean-Benoît Milan, travelling with his wife and children on flight V7 3843 between Bordeaux and Malaga. He received an outstanding prize: free flights for a year to all destinations offered by Volotea when departing from Bordeaux.

He was awarded the prize by Lázaro Ros, Managing Director of the company, and Pascal Personne, President of Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport plc.

Today we are particularly proud to celebrate our millionth passenger at Bordeaux. Since its arrival in 2012, Volotea has continued to expand at Bordeaux, which is our second base in France. With the launch of this new international line to Malta and our seasonal lines to the Canary Islands, we are sustaining our momentum to offer residents in the region ever more direct, fast, comfortable, and low-cost flights,” stated Lázaro Ros, the company’s Managing Director.

With the opening of these new routes for the winter and summer seasons, Volotea now offers a large range of regular flights all year round. The company’s performance is a result of its attractive range of destinations which grows with every season. With the arrival of the A319 in 2017, this range will increase even more,” added Pascal Personne, President of Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport plc.

To mark the occasion of this announcement, Volotea is launching a special promotion. From 21 to 26 October inclusive, tickets will be available from €1 to discover Malta.

VOLOTEA, EXPONENTIAL GROWTH IN FRANCE AND EUROPE
Four years after the launch of its operations in April 2012, Volotea is continuing its development. To reach its goals, the company expanded from two bases in 2012 (Venice and Nantes), to seven in 2015 (Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias, and Verona). In 2016, Volotea opened its eighth base in Toulouse and on 1st June announced the opening of a base in Genoa that should be up and running by 2017.

In 2017 Volotea will operate flights to 16 countries: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Israel, Albania, Moldova, Portugal, Malta, the United Kingdom, Austria, Ireland and Luxembourg, with between 240 and 250 lines to 79 French and European cities.

Thanks to its model of direct interregional flights at low prices and its high-quality service, Volotea forecasts that it will serve more than 3.4 million travellers in 2016, an increase of 40% compared to the previous year, and 4.4 million passengers in 2017. It is worth noting that Volotea had the highest recorded growth rate in ASK (available seat kilometres) in 2015 among European low-cost airlines.

With the addition of 6 more Airbus A319 next year, Volotea will have 28 aircraft in 2017: 10 Airbus A319 and 18 Boeing 717. The airline plans to become a 100% Airbus company in the coming years. This strategic decision will allow Volotea to increase its transport capacity by 20%, expanding from the 125 seats currently available in the Boeing 717 to 150 seats in the A319. The two models, known for their reliability and comfort, have reclining seats and are 5% larger than average, with around 30 inches of space between each seat.

In addition, the company was awarded a prize for ‘Best customer service 2016’ with a score of 8.58/10 in the airline category, at the customer service of the year awards organised by Sotto Tempo in Madrid.
