Yesterday, the 1-millionth passenger on the route from Hamburg to the New York hub of Newark Liberty International was welcomed at Hamburg Airport. The successful long-haul route has been operated by the US carrier, United Airlines, since 10 June, 2005. The lucky 1-millionth passenger on the route was Annemarie Kotte from Hamburg. The jubilee guest was congratulated by Alexander Laukenmann, Managing Director of Hamburg Airport, and Sead Odobasic, Station Manager of United Airlines in Hamburg. Since the launch of the route between Hamburg and New York Newark, one million passengers have travelled on a total of 7,122 flights.

Successful partnership for eleven years
It gives us great pleasure, together with United Airlines, to welcome the 1-millionth passenger on the Hamburg – New York route. United is a reliable partner for Hamburg Airport. We have already celebrated the eleventh birthday of the service this year. This demonstrates the great success and continuity of the route. Both holidaymakers and business travellers benefit from the comfortable non-stop service to New York,” said Alexander Laukenmann, Managing Director of Hamburg Airport.

United is proud to have now carried its millionth passenger on the only non-stop service from Hamburg to the USA. This shows the great success of our daily Hamburg – New York flight over the past eleven years,” said Guido Araujo, Regional Director Central Europe and Iberia from United Airlines. “The deployment of the Boeing 767-300 has allowed us to expand the number of BusinessFirst seats in line with demand. Our passengers value the fast, comfortable service to the fascinating metropolis of New York, and also benefit from more than 300 connecting services to destinations throughout the USA, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Connections to North, South and Central America
In the current summer timetable, United Airlines operates the route between Hamburg and New York daily with modern Boeing 767-300 aircraft. In winter, the route is flown an average of four times per week with the same model of aircraft. In New York, passengers from Hamburg have a choice of approximately 300 connecting services throughout North, South and Central America. 46 percent of all Hamburg passengers with United transfer to connecting flights for other destinations in New York Newark. 38 percent of all passengers travelling from the Hamburg region to New York do so on the non-stop United flight. Passengers with New York as their final destination have ideal connections with the city. Manhattan is just 23 kilometers from Newark Liberty International Airport and reachable by train in around 25 minutes.

Comfort for business and leisure travellers
The Boeing 767-300 is fitted with 135 Economy seats, 49 Economy Plus seats and 30 BusinessFirst seats. United Economy Plus is available on all flights from Hamburg for a small premium in comparison to Economy and offers around 15 cm more legroom. BusinessFirst, also available on all flights from Hamburg, provides 180-degree reclining flat beds. Beyond this, United Airlines offers passengers on the flight a comprehensive range of services. WiFi is available in all classes, and passengers can take advantage of the on-demand entertainment system with individual screens at every seat. Economy passengers are served a 3-course meal including free soft drinks, wine and beer. In BusinessFirst, a 5-course meal is served with selected wines and champagnes.

Over the coming years, United Airlines will progressively replace BusinessFirst with the newly created United Polaris Business Class, taking the service quality for passengers to an even higher standard. In the future, Polaris will be available on all flights from Hamburg.

Air cargo non-stop to the USA
As the Boeing 767-300 can also carry large quantities of freight, the service is also interesting for the cargo business. The use of this aircraft makes more cargo capacity available between the two major economic regions on both sides of the Atlantic – an important aspect for many Hamburg companies. The new Hamburg Airport Cargo Center opens up many new possibilities for Hamburg’s economy. The facility has been designed for an annual capacity of up to 150,000 tonnes of air cargo. From there, cargo can be dispatched all over the world – including to New York. Fact: from the perspective of many Hamburg companies, New York is currently the biggest and most important US market.

The flights from Hamburg to New York are available for all classes of booking, starting at 449 euros return in Economy. Tickets can be booked via united.com and in travel agents.
