TAP has once again surprised its clients – but this time in the North. This morning passengers flying on TP81, between Porto and São Paulo, were welcomed on board the A330 “Portugal” – the TAP aircraft with retro livery – by Rosa Mota and invited to embark on a journey back to the past. During this second retro flight for the airline, TAP clients will have the opportunity to taste a meat dish prepared by the Porto-based chef, Rui Paula, created specifically for this initiative.

This journey back in time started at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport at the check-in desks decked out in the TAP colours and iconography from the 1970s and with the distribution of ticket wallets and baggage labels recreated in the style of those used at that time. As with the airline’s first retro flight between Lisbon and Toronto on 14 July, passengers were welcomed by the crew wearing one of the airline’s most emblematic uniforms (created by the French designer Louis Féraud) and by a very special “crew member”. Rosa Mota was keen to be the ambassador for this Porto – São Paulo flight – two cities of great importance in the life and career of the Olympic marathon champion.

Also originating from Porto, Michelin-star chef Rui Paula who is part of the “Taste the Stars” project, a gastronomic challenge launched by TAP to five Portuguese Michelin chefs last April, was also present on this flight. Rui Paula, the chef behind the success of the Casa de Chá, in Leça da Palmeira, the DOP restaurant in downtown Porto, and DOC in Alto Douro, created a dish comprising saddle of lamb with goat’s cheese purée specifically for this flight. TAP clients will also be able to sample meals served in times gone by such as prawn cocktail, hare terrine and traditional “Zé do Pipo” cod.

The flight will be complemented with TAP’s retro version of some of the drinks served onboard and which joined TAP in this initiative such as Coca-Cola and Sagres beer. The chocolate brand Regina has revived its famous chocolate packaging with holes. Passengers will be challenged by Rosa Mota to remember the past and the youngest passengers will learn about and try the famous “holes game” from the chocolate brand. TAP will also offer its Executive Class clients a special version of the well-known game “O Sabichão”, from Majora, with questions about the airline. The amenities kit usually offered in this class will also all be retro. TAP has revived its iconic fabric bag and filled it with products from that era such as Lavender Eau de Cologne, Benamôr hand cream, Couto toothpaste and a pair of pyjamas.

Nor has the onboard entertainment been forgotten with a selection of the best films from the 1970s and a special music channel with the big hits from the period. As for the press, Jornal de Notícias has teamed up with TAP for this campaign creating an exclusive edition inspired by the 1970s which is available along with the other publications normally available on board TAP aircraft.

TAP will continue to offer its clients retro experiences onboard the A330 “Portugal”, through new evocative flights to destinations to be announced shortly.
