Pisa – a former city-state in Tuscany
The most famous landmark in this Tuscan city is the leaning tower. Together with the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Baptistery and the cemetery of Camposanto Monumentale, it forms an iconic ensemble around the Piazza dei Miracolito to the north of the old city centre. Here, tourists can roam the narrow lanes and discover the fascinating past of the city, which was one of the four seafaring republics. Pisa is also the ideal starting point to explore the coast of the Ligurian Sea and Tuscany. The city’s most famous son is the physicist Galileo Galilei.
Malta – a dream holiday destination
Magical little bays, rugged cliffs, magnificent sandy beaches: the island nation, with the three main inhabited islands Malta, Gozo and Comino, is situated 80 kilometres south of Sicily and is a veritable jewel in the Mediterranean. One of the special characteristics of Malta is the contrast between its coastlines, which range from flat, sandy beaches and wide tranquil bays in the east and north to rocky cliffs in the south-west and north. Zadar – a port city with a Mediterranean flair
Zadar and its 3000-year history is the gateway to Dalmatia, with its pebbly beaches and solitary coves, and beautiful islands just off the coast. The old city centre features a wealth of historical buildings, some of which date back to the Roman age. The long rule of the Venetians is still visible in the old city centre with its characteristic Venetian-style architecture.
