Qatar Airways cancels delivery of four Airbus A350 XWB aircraft

Qatar Airways – the launch customer of the Airbus A350 back in 2014 – has cancelled the delivery of 4 Airbus A350-900 XWB aircraft. MSN 63 and MSN 78 were about to be delivered, MSN 90 was cabin ready but not painted yet while MSN 100 was still without passenger seats and galleys.

As the delivery of the brand new A350’s got delayed, Qatar Airways had the option to cancel the delivery altogether. Airbus will now reallocate the aircraft to other customers. Retrofitting the three Qatar Airways styled cabin interiors will be at an additional cost for Airbus.

Last year Qatar Airways sought compensation for the delays in delivery of its A320neo, as the carrier expected a “very huge” delay before receiving the first A320neo. It seems strange why Qatar Airways has now decided to cancel.

A weaker demand due to the current diplomatic crisis might be the main reason for the cancellation.
