With the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) pilots’ union having resolved on Sunday evening to call for two further days of strike action this Tuesday and Wednesday (29 and 30 November), Lufthansa has put special flight schedules into effect for the two days concerned. Travellers can verify whether their flight will be operating as scheduled on LH.com. This further strike action will affect all short-haul services from Germany on Tuesday and short-, medium- and long-haul services from Germany on Wednesday.
For Tuesday, 29 November, a total of 2,184 of the 3,000 scheduled Lufthansa Group flights can be operated as planned. The strike action here will affect short-haul services from Germany. For Wednesday, 30 November, a total of 2,110 Lufthansa Group flights will be operated. On that day, the VC has called for the strike action to be additionally extended to long-haul flights. This further strike action will cause 816 cancellations of short-haul services affecting some 82,000 passengers on Tuesday, while the Wednesday strike action will lead to 890 cancellations affecting around 98,000 travellers.
All in all, over 525,000 passengers will be affected by the last six days of strike action since last Wednesday through a total of 4,461 flight cancellations.
Group airlines Eurowings, Germanwings, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Brussels Airlines are not affected by the strike. The pilots of Lufthansa Cargo have also not been called on to strike. Flights to and from Germany that are provided by other Lufthansa Group airlines will operate as scheduled.
Customers whose flight is cancelled through the strike action may rebook (once) or cancel their flight free of charge. Customers also have the one-time option of rebooking free of charge if they hold a ticket for a flight with Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS or Brussels Airlines from, to or via Germany on one of the days affected by the strike. For routes within Germany, flight tickets may also be exchanged for Deutsche Bahn rail travel vouchers. Customers can find additional information under “Current Travel Information” on LH.com.
Lufthansa asks all customers to take the precaution of checking the status of their flight on LH.com before travelling to the airport. Lufthansa is also notifying all travellers who have provided contact information in their customer profile of any cancellations by email or SMS text message. The company has contacted some 250,000 customers directly via these channels so far. Customers in Germany can also call the 0800 850 60 70 service hotline for information (free from German landlines).
