Due to a power failure at Belgocontrol, Belgian air space has been closed from 09:45 this morning at least until 17:30 local time today, 27 May.
Aeroplanes with destination Belgian airports have been diverted to airports in neighbouring countries: Amsterdam, Maastricht, Lille, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Luxembourg, etc.
Aircraft which were in the immediate vicinity of the airport could land, but then a “clear the sky” procedure was implemented.
No aircraft can currently fly above Belgium below 24,500 feet. The Brussels FIR closure does NOT affect overflights operating above FL245, which are run by Maastricht.
