Traffic results for October 2016: Austrian Airlines reports10.1% increase in passenger volume

Austrian Airlines transported more than one million passengers in the month of October 2016. This comprises a rise of 10.1 percent from the previous year. This increase is mainly due to the expanded bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany. The flight offering in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 6.9 percent to more than 2.2 billion. Austrian Airlines sold close to 1.7 billion revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in October 2016, an increase of 4.5 percent from the prior-year level. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 76.6 percent, a decrease of 1.8 percentage points compared to October 2015. The number of flights in October 2016 rose by 11.6 percent to a total of 12,472 flights.

On an accumulated basis, the red-white-red carrier succeeded in increasing passenger volume from January to October 2016: On balance, Austrian Airlines transported more than 9.7 million passengers, an increase of 3.9 percent from the prior-year period. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) climbed by 4.6 percent to more than 20.8 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) sold by Austrian Airlines until the end of October 2016 rose 2.3 percent from the previous year to more than 16 billion. Capacity utilization fell slightly by 1.8 percentage points to 77.0 percent.
