Austrian Airlines welcomed 3.7% more passengers on board in Q1 2016

Austrian Airlines carried more than two million passengers in the period January to March 2016, comprising a rise of 3.7 percent in a year-on-year comparison. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 8.3 percent to more than 4.9 billion, which can be attributed to the expansion of bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany. On balance, Austrian Airlines sold more than 3.5 billion revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), corresponding to a rise of 5.4 percent from the previous year. Capacity utilization (passenger load factor) fell by 2.0 percentage points to 71.2 percent.

The positive trend with respect to passenger volume also applies to the month of March 2016: Austria’s red-white-red carrier transported 819,000 passengers, equaling growth of 3.9 percent from March 2015. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 8.7 percent to more than 1.8 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) were up 5.4 percent to more than 1.3 billion. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 73.3 percent, down 2.3 percentage points compared to March 2015. The number of flights climbed by 4.7 percent in March 2016 to 10,753 flights. This means Austrian Airlines operated an average of 347 flights per day in March 2016, carrying an average of 26,419 passengers.
