Last weekend British Airways flights were severely disrupted worldwide, about 75000 passengers got affected by the power supply issue in British Airways’ main data center.

Today British newspaper The Times reported that the shutdown of the data center was triggered by an IT contractor who accidentally switched of the power supply.

As all of the IT systems got affected British Airways was forced to cancel nearly all Saturday flights from Gatwick and Heathrow.

It’s not the first IT failure for British Airways in recent history, the last major failures happened in July and September 2016.

An investigation will now take place and British Airways will have to answer why the company wasn’t better prepared for power supply issues.
