Eurowings, the long-haul low cost-owned subsidiary of Lufthansa, ceases service from Cologne/Bonn to Dubai from May 1. In this way, Eurowings frees up more capacity for other destinations.
Eurowings was launched last autumn with long-haul flights from Cologne/Bonn. The route to Dubai was started last month. However, the airline suffered from delays due to a lack of capacity. A low point was reached when a flight from Varadero last week arrived with a delay of 68 hours.
The Lufthansa subsidiary launched in late 2015 routes from Cologne/Bonn to Varadero (Cuba), Punta Cana and Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), Dubai, Phuket and Bangkok (Thailand). Later this year it added direct routes to Miami, Las Vegas and Boston in the US, the Iranian capital Tehran and the island of Mauritius.
Eurowings has some own Airbus A330-200s, but also regularly leases capacity from other airlines. Thus, among others, a Boeing 767-300ER from the Dutch airline TUIfly was regularly used by the company.
Dubai will be served by Lufthansa itself from May 1.
