Qatar Airways, British Airways’ largest shareholder (through IAG) wants to acquire a 10% stake in American Airlines and thus will become the 7th biggest shareholder of the American airline, several news agencies report.
Qatar Airways has filed under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act to acquire a portion of American Airlines stock. The acquisition will be worth around $808 million of stock. American Airlines said it received an unsolicited notice that the state-owned Qatar Airways would like to acquire a 10% stake in the airline. American Airlines shares have jumped 5% after the news.
