Alitalia will increase its flights to Iran after the recent decision by the United Nations to lift economic sanctions.

The new arrangement to fly daily to the Iranian capital from Rome was taken to facilitate the resumption of economic ties between the two countries and to better serve Italian entrepreneurs, business people and tourists.

The daily service to Tehran will begin on March 27, up from the existing four services a week from Rome.

Italy is one of the major trading partners with Iran and the second biggest among all EU countries with commerce valued at 1.6 billion Euros in 2014, according to a report by the Italy-Iran Chamber of Commerce.

Alitalia will operate an Airbus A320 from Rome Fiumicino at 17:30 every day which will land in Tehran at 00:50 (local time) the following morning.

The flight schedule will allow passengers travelling from 26 Italian airports to connect through Alitalia’s Rome hub.  Inbound customers from Iran will be able to transfer conveniently at Fiumicino to a range of onward flights throughout Europe and to North and South America.

Business class and economy tickets are on sale at alitalia.com, via Alitalia Customer Centre, telephone number 89.20.10 (+39.06.65649 from overseas) travel agencies and airport ticket offices.
